Research Exemplars

To facilitate a broader reach of the convergence methodologies across SBE, computer science, and data science research, we have created a diverse interdisciplinary team that will debate convergence methodologies and best practices, while increasing the breadth of tools and data variables available to their disciplines. The following are research topics of the projects that will be exemplars of this Convergence:

Led by psychology faculty, the goal of this exemplar is to understand online discussions related to parenting, homeschooling during Covid-19, and parenting-related stress during the pandemic.

Led by political science and political communications faculty, the goal of this exemplar is to understand the role of different types of traditional and new media on public opinion as it relates to presidential elections.

Led by an economist, the goal of this exemplar is to understand the relationship between economic conversation during Covid-19 and different economic indicators and policy decisions, e.g. job loss and stay at home orders.

Led by computer scientists and communications faculty, the goal of this exemplar is to understand what types of misinformation “sticks” and how misinformation spread.

Led by survey methodologists, the goal of this exemplar to test different methods for sampling, measuring, and modeling social media to understand the strengths and weaknesses of each approach, and develop new ones as needed.
